Six Female Scientists Received a Career Restart Grant

7 Dec 2020

To create conditions for the inclusion of researchers after the interruption of their careers into research teams at Masaryk University. Such is the goal of the Career Restart grant, which was announced in September this year by the Grant Agency of Masaryk University (GAMU). Six female scientists from various MU workplaces succeeded in the evaluation, their projects will start from the New Year.

Career Restart is a grant for scientists who have interrupted their career in research, for example, due to parental leave or other fundamental reasons. The category will facilitate and accelerate the return of young talented workers to productive scientific careers and increase the percentage of their representation in independent, senior scientific positions.

The call was open from October to November 2020. Selected applicants will receive financing in the amount of 500 thousand crowns per year for two years. More information about this form of support can be found on the GAMU website, Career Restart category.

"Masaryk University will support the long-term establishment of this format of GAMU support so it could be open every year, as it allows for much-needed and flexible funding for young researchers after a career break. The grant can be used, for example, to finance part-time work during or after parental leave, and thus offers more opportunities to prepare grant applications for external agencies," said the Vice-Rector for Research and Doctoral Studies, Prof. Šárka Pospíšilová.
